Bethlehem Baptist Church Richmond, Va

Pastor

Dear Saints of Bethlehem:

As I am setting at my desk penning this letter, I am reminded of just how precious life is. A couple days ago, my best friend died of a heart attack at the age of 52. While I am mourning his death, I am expecting to receive news of my sister’s passing. Both of them know the Lord, so there is no doubt where they will be which brings peace. I take comfort from 1 Thessalonians 5:13-18 where God reminds us that we “sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.”

I have come to realize in my life the reason why it is painful to lose someone very close and dear is because through our lives we long to be loved and cherished for who we are. When we find someone who really loves us for who we are, it’s a great loss at their passing. For many people to experience that love is a very special blessing and a love to be celebrated. I want to thank each of you that have and continue to pray for my sister, Norma. Your prayers are felt and appreciated.

Now with some lighter and more cheerier news. I am grateful for the ways that God is continuing to bless our church. I want to personally welcome Josh Cranor and his wife, Brittany, and daughter, Madison. It is great to have them aboard. We continue to hear great comments on our sign. Our new service is getting closer to starting in September. More people are committing to fill positions of service.

Our VBS was a wonderful success and I want to thank Ruth Martin and her crew for all their hard work and faithful service. All in all, I feel we are making good positive strides and turning a new page at Bethlehem. With that said, there is still much to continue to do and positions to be filled and work to be done. I pray that we will continue the momentum that God has begun. Many of us know from experience that when God is at work, Satan will try his best to hinder those efforts. I believe the answer for that is to pray for Satan to be stopped and for us to work, pray and work, pray and work. May we be found as a people of prayer and a people of work. I believe they go hand in hand. May God bless us as we pray and work for Him.

God’s blessings,
Pastor Steve
